GM WAR (default sort) = wins above a replacement GM — an average front office getting the expected return on the same budget — in wins per season. It's the org-adjusted, shrunk version of TAB/yr: a crossed model estimates franchise and GM effects jointly, removes the franchise baseline the GM inherited, and shrinks short tenures toward 0; the ± is the 95% band and bold = distinguishable from an average GM. So +5 ≈ five wins of talent-above-budget a season that's attributable to him, net of the org. '–' = never the head of baseball ops for a completed season (served under a POBO, or hired too recently). TAB = talent above budget (tenure total; year-to-year ≈+0.47) — GM WAR is its org-cleaned per-season rate. WAB = realized wins above budget — TAB plus the non-repeatable luck of turning talent into wins (the scoreboard anchor, not a skill metric). WAR surplus = era-neutral value per dollar (wins minus payroll in win-equivalents). The build channels show how the value was sourced, all in realized fWAR: HG = home-grown (amateur draft + international signing — your farm's output); Trade = acquired minus surrendered (incl. purchases/waiver claims); FA = value from free agents signed minus value of FAs who walked. Each has a per-season rate next to it. The four % columns are each channel's share of gross-positive acquired fWAR (Draft + FA + Trade + R5 ≈ 100%), where R5 = Rule-5 / minor-league draft pickups (split out from trades). Acq Lev (Acquisition Leverage) = each acquisition's fair share of the playoff-odds boost its season's deals bought over the roster already on hand, in its arrival year — graded once per deal (the repeatable decision skill; stickiness ≈+0.74, predicts the World Series out of sample). It rides an S-curve in roster WAR, steepest near the ~45-WAR threshold. All are franchise-level outcomes credited to whoever ran baseball ops in the acquisition year — home-grown to the GM at the player's draft/signing, trade/FA/R5 to the GM who made the move (so e.g. a star drafted under a prior regime is credited to that regime, not whoever was in the chair when he peaked).
